Every piece is a single take. No edits or prompts. Mistakes and all.
This album is a humble response to my recovery from perfectionism and to my fear of failure. I lacked the "perfect" piano, the "perfect" recording equipment, and even the "perfect" preparation and mindset. The desire for the "perfect" often plagues musicians from taking the next step, from exploring further creative possibilities with a joyful, adventurous sense of risk. Although this album is far from "perfect", it is my heart as it is.
With each track, I aim to explore, risk, and reflect while expressing a simple gratitude. And in this music, I am free.
As I Am was inspired by the great Keith Jarrett's album titled Rio. Descriptive titles were added post-recording as an ode to the programming of Debussy's Preludes.
